“With extensive natural stone elements, steel features and timber beams with exaggerated overhangs to help with the mid-day sun, our home’s West Coast contemporary vibe calmly invites you from the outside, in,” explains homeowner Andrea. “I like to be ahead of the design curve and take risks. Mark, Luke and Tom were receptive and keen to incorporate finishes and appliances that are not yet common in Canada; the result remains functional, pleasing to the eye and reflects my personal style.” Architectural design by Dean Thomas Design Group

DRH WINS 2020 BUILDER OF THE YEAR by Luke obodzinski

Pop! Fizz! Clink!

Awards season has been immeasurably good to us, friends. Dream Ridge Homes has been named 2020 Builder of the Year Small Volume Single Family category by BILD Calgary Region Awards, honouring the very best in the building industry each year.

To start the season with three projects finalists in separate Best New Home categories was thrilling enough, then this week to win two of these categories in staggered announcements for our Contemporary West Coast Home in Mount Royal and Modern Brownstone in Marda Loop, has been simply incredible and unexpected.

“We couldn’t have been more surprised and humbled,” says Mark Obodzinski, President of Dream Ridge Homes. “On behalf of my business partners, Tom and Luke, I’d like to acknowledge that without the support of our families, the faith of our clients, and the unrivalled talent of our design and construction teams, the past 17 years wouldn’t have been possible, let alone this incredible honour.”

“I think it can be said that Dream Ridge worked very hard to come out ahead this past year, and for that your entire team should be proud,” commends Brian Hahn, Chief Executive Officer, BILD Calgary Region. “2020 was a year like no other for all of us, professionally and personally. Our industry pivoted quickly, introducing innovations and protocols to safely facilitate home sales, renovations and business operations. Dream Ridge kept building safely, helping people realize the dream of owning a home they love. Dream Ridge, like all BILD members, continued to innovate and create beautiful spaces, making homes more enjoyable for families spending a lot more time there.”

“Our urban farmhouse with indoor and outdoor fireplaces has us ready for slow summer evenings and balmy winter Chinooks,” says owner Dr. Sean Fair. “Our dining room, kitchen and great room all flow together to maximize the sun’s reach and create a cohesive entertainment space. A striking white oak staircase with metal spindles lead to our oversized master closet with a stone top island and four spacious bedrooms — I may never leave the second floor again.” Architectural design by McDowell & Associates. Our team is overwhelmed by this level of recognition by our industry peers. We have so much to celebrate and have cherished collaborators to recognize, so until we can do this together, we’ll be sharing our good fortune with Habitat for Humanity to support other families access home ownership.

“On behalf of BILD Calgary Region, I’d like to congratulate Dream Ridge on their 2020 BILD Grand Award as Small Volume Single Family Builder of the Year and for their wins in two Best New Home categories. Our suppliers, manufacturers and professional service members adapted processes, weathered materials shortages, and did their part to keep the industry going,” says Brian Hahn.
